UK – Day 19

We finally got our place. It’s well taken care of, though a bit far from civilization. I don’t love the location, but I do like the place, and Sharon likes it too.

We’ll need to furnish it. I used to love that process. Not anymore. A lot of that has to do with accepting that my ideals of a home won’t come to fruition. This isn’t a complaint, just a reminder of what reality looks like with this family. It’s going to be cluttered and messy. But that’s okay, because it’s a tiny, tiny price to pay to be with Nor.

Speaking of Nor, she’s started driving lessons. And speaking of driving, maybe I should take some lessons too. In less than a week, I’ve already gotten parking and speeding tickets. I remember now why I dislike driving. It’s an activity full of risks. I much prefer public transportation and taxis. That’s also part of why I wish we lived somewhere more walkable.

And speaking of walking, I haven’t exercised in 19 days. I want to get back into that routine. It’s a bit hard to arrange right now because I need to stabilize my daily schedule first. I think it’ll involve some gyms near Chai’s school. That seems like the most sensible option.

Speaking of Chai, he’s settled in really well. The parent community at his school is amazing. It is warm and very active. They do a lot for the school and for each other. One parent runs a baby lunch group, another takes school photos for everyone. It’s quite remarkable.

Finally, Jing is still adjusting. There are a lot of ups, and also a lot of downs. And of course, the downs feel stronger and more memorable. I wish I could go through this on her behalf.

Hopefully, I’ll find my routine soon, drive better, and be at peace.
